Gilles Poney, 55, of 202 Maple St., Moncton, died Saturday at home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Rivière du Loup, Qué., he was a son of Violetta (Lapointe) Poney of Rivere du Loup and the late Joseph Israel Poney. He was a pipefitter with CNR and attended Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Moncton.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Dorina Gautreau; three daughters, Mrs. Roger Landry (Diane) of Little Dover Road, Miss Linda Poney at home and Mrs. Francois Boudreau (Brenda) of Barachois; three sisters, Mrs. Christopher Reid (Denise) of Bathurst, Mrs. Philippe Martin (Yolande) of Montreal and Mrs. Norman Lévesque (Marie-Ange) of Sept-Isles, Que.; a brother, Hubert of Sept-Isles, Que.; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A son, Michel, died shortly after birth.

The body is at Chartersville Funeral Home, Dieppe. Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Moncton, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Notre Dame de l'Annonciation Parish Cemetery, Pré-d'en-Haut.
